Traditional Lady 2ft tall - Green Leather Puppet

Traditional Lady 2ft tall – Green Leather Puppet

Looking for something different for wall art, look no further. This translucent leather painting art form from Andhra Pradesh (India) is used to make puppets for the popular shadow-puppet theatre tradition of Andhra Pradesh -‘Tholu Bommalata’- literally meaning “the dance of leather dolls’. It is one of the earliest forms of performing arts, dating back to 300 B.C.

Made using goat hide and sheepskin and natural colours, derived from vegetables dyes. A chisel is used to create small holes inside the decorative patterns to make the art pieces more attractive. The painted piece is dried in sunlight over two to three days. Hindu epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata inspire artisans to create these beautiful items in a wide range of shapes, sizes and utility making them a unique work of art to liven up a wall or a corner.

Comes ready to hang.
