Pair of Etikopakka Yellow Birds

Etikopakka toys are made in the Etikopakka region of Andhra Pradesh, with lacquer colour and are traditionally known as Etikopakka Bommalu. The toys are made out of wood and are coloured with natural dyes derived from seeds, lacquer, bark, roots and leaves. While making these toys, a colourless resinous secretion of numerous insects is used.

Already prepared vegetable dyes are further mixed to the lac, during the process of oxidation. This results into a rich and coloured laquer, used to decorate the Etikopakka toys.
